Tracing the footsteps of John Paul II

We invite you to visit these three particularly important places in life of John Paul II. Firstly Wadowice, located in the Skawa valley, where Karol Wojtyla to be later known as the Holy Father, was born in 1920, here he spent most of his youth. The city is located roughly 50 kilometers south of Krakow. Here you can visit the family home of Pope which was converted into a museum, with an exhibition showing his life from birth until his journey to Rome in 1978, as well as the Basilica of a Blessed Virgin Mary’s Sacrifice in which he was baptized. Later we will visit Kalwaria Zebrzydowska with a Bernardine monastery complex and the Marian-Passion Sanctuary which is one of the most visited pilgrimage centers in Poland. This calvary founded in the seventeenth century is the only calvary in the world included in UNESCO World Heritage Sites and the Holy Father himself visited this place many times in his life. The last stop of the trip is the Sanctuary of Divine Mercy in Krakow’s District of Lagiewniki that holds the relics of Saint Faustina canonized by Pope John Paul II in a year 2000. There also you can tour the Basilica which was consecrated by the Polish Pope in 2002.
